At my house, we try to enforce the “take off your shoes at the door” rule, but every once in a while, we have guests over or someone in my family forgets to take off their shoes. Eventually the carpet by the front door enviably starts to look matted and dirty despite our efforts. This last year my kids joined sports and had friends come over after some practices, so my carpet got especially dirty. I thought it might need to be replaced this time because it was getting so bad.
